Industrial Controls Technician

Summary

Under the direction of the Automation Engineer, the Industrial Controls Technician develops, commissions and programs automated control systems and is able to troubleshoot these systems both at Faith’s facility as well as our customers’.

Essential Duties

  • The listed duties are not all inclusive and may be expanded upon, as management deems necessary.
  1. Design and implement new control systems and instrumentation equipment.
    1. Maintains control systems, including PLC/PC controllers and industrial networks such as Ethernet, motor control systems, servo drives, frequency drives, and electrical distribution systems.
    2. Review and update/redline system layouts, detailed drawings, and schematics.
    3. Ensure all projects are documented and information is available for use by all Maintenance and Operations personnel.
    4. Assist with site evaluation and pre-installation efforts to ensure success during product deployment, provide field installation duties as well as operator training and post-training follow-up.
  2. Act as a technical resource in problem solving and troubleshooting operational activities to reduce downtime related to control problems.
    1. Communicates technical issues to Facilities and Operations management.
    2. Support and execute equipment calibration, programming installation and updates, and machine setup.
    3. Collaborate with Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering personnel to resolve problems.
    4. Troubleshoot programming and system faults for equipment and modify existing programs to improve sequencing, add/modify/remove alarms, and aide in improved troubleshooting and error response within PLCs, HMIs, and automated systems.
    5. Perform telephone and remote diagnostic support; providing services which include (but are not limited to) troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, production, and/or software related problems.

  4. Ability to work independently, in a fast pace environment.
    1. Learn to perform field work duties with and without general supervision.
  5. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education / Experience

  1. High School diploma or equivalent.

    2. Human Machine Interfaces (HMI)

    3. Robotics
      1. FANUC
      2. Universal Robot
  3. Knowledge of Allen Bradley communication protocols and networks
    1. Commission EtherNet/IP devices; network address, communications
  4. Experience with DC & AC (up to 480v) circuits
  5. Beneficial, but not required
    1. Experience in food and dairy industry
    2. Ability to read P&ID schematics
    3. UL experience

Language Skills

  1. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  2. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  3. Ability to effectively communicate with groups of managers, customers, and employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

  1. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  2. Ability to use and understand measurement devices: such as tape measures, scales, calipers.

Reasoning Ability

  1. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  2. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Other Qualifications

  1. Valid state-provided drivers license
  2. Requires the ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment, such as;
    1. Computers
      1. Programs: Word Processor, Spreadsheet
    2. VoIP Telephones
    3. Multifunction Printers (Fax, Copy, Scan)
  3. Ability to operate a variety of test equipment

  2. The ideal candidate will have both experiences and the ability to demonstrate these skills in an interview with a company that designs, builds and integrates controls, and control products into existing automated manufacturing systems.
